Default Power loss

I have a '96 GT w a 5-speed that has a VERY noticeable powerloss. It revs slow but that may be a result of economizing in the computer. The most noticeable part is that it seems to losefire when you give it more than half throttle. I don't know if it's plugs and its running s**tty and floding itself (not likely since there are no check engine lights so 02 sensors are working) or ignition coils failing at high loads or timing sensors malfunctioning or what. I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar problem. It does have quite a few miles on it (120k) but this problem is intermittent so it does not point at compression loss or vavle malfunctioning (no lifter ticks or knocks either but does seem to burn a little oil, could be a drip while in operation but no stand still puddles, no oil smoke out back) any help would do im on a tight budget and cant restore my entire ignition system right now and have it not fix it.

have blowbye? maybee lossing compression. valve springs getting weak? if whats true about your o2 sensors wouldnt they pick up the really rich condition and not stoich condition, if your coils where going bad .

it really seems like a miss. if you accelerate with cruise from 70 to 80 it gets kind of a lunge. but if you do it yourself smoothly to 90 and give same amount of throttle there is no lunge. It seems to be only at high loads at low rpms by 4800 rpm it runs like a champ. When it's "cold"it works beautifully for about 10 min and then starts agian. by cold i mean parked for 20 minutes after making a 200 mile drive. The water tmep has started to drop but oil temp has hardly budged.

im stumped sorry dude. if it rins better at higher rpms that cuts out the possibility of springs. fuel is cool its not detonating. well first let me ask you this what is done and what after market gauges you got. do you have a rich lean gage.

do a compresion check then leak down test. check fuel presure from line. have your injectors cleaned. have your coils checked or i never did it on a newer mustang but get a multimeter and check them for ohms primary and secondary side. (primary being from neg to pos and sec. from positive to discharge area on a way higher setting.)

no way im paying someone to clean injectors. i will have to do it myself. gimme hints if u got them. idea on what pressure should be? how do u check leak down? aftermarket stuff: motorsport clutch, underdrive pulleys, 9mm wires. Running bosch crapnium's. i think im gonna throw in cheapy champs to rule out that as a problem.

ya i would change plugs first since its a cheap fix. dont just add a additive to your fuel to clean injectors. use a fuel injector cleaner (might have to pay unless you know some one that has one) under drive pulleys tend to cause problems because your motor doesnt get as much of a charge from the slower spinning alternator. try taking them off also if easy to you. just try differnt things. tell you find the problem. when doing a leak down test on cylinders it should hold pressure and not leak(not real fast) on the compression check dont know exact number you could call a dealler ship for that but should all be pretty consistant whithin each other. hope that helps. fuel pressure should be around 30 i think but again check with dealler for specific number. well hope that helps. or at least gets you started ar sparks a couple ideas from you or others.

change the plugs, wires, and fuel filter. I bet that will make a world of difference for you</P>

First, that's bull. Whoever gave you this idea should be slapped. </P>

Second, over 100k miles in a GT <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0">That baby has probably seen more than it's share of WOT.</P>

Third, you have little money to maintain it <IMG src=smileys/smiley11.gif border="0"></P>

Sounds like you are driving the wrong car This is only the beginning of problems to come man...Go ahead and go through the ignition system, change your fuel filter, check your fuel pressure also..several things could be causing this problem, and I hope you have deeper pockets than you've portrayed.</P><edited><editID>Dan02GT</editID><editDate>37919.6505092593</editDate></edited>
