Default coil over vs springs and new s

it seems like coil overs give you both the ability to drop your car and get better than stock damping. is there some reason why you wouldn't want to put them on your car? i used to race little rc cars and those had coil overs, unfortunately they required a lot of maintenance. does that carry over into the real world?

i haven't decided to go with coil overs yet because i don't really know much about them, i want to drop it a bit and improve handling so i'm trying to decide if new springs/shocks or coil overs are the way to go. do you know of any advantages/disadvantages a coil over setup would have pver something like the eibach pro-kit?

The advantages of a coil over system is not what most people think...the main advantage is that you can corner weight your car (right front to left rear, left front to right rear)for the best possible balance for handling. Yes it is true it makes lowering your car easier etc...but it is the fine tuning you can get with the system for handling that makes the difference. You can tailor the spring to meet your particular needs, adjust the ride height and corner weight the car...all good things if you are into going around a corner fast!!! With some research, you can get a nice coil over set up that doesn't sacrifice the ride characteristics either...you can get a nice compliant ride, with handling to boot!!! Unlike some specific spring/shock combo that lowers the car, but makes the ride too stiff. Too stiff a chassis and the handling goes out the window, as well as your kidneys...

Disadvantages are cost mainly as systems tend to cost more than simple spring/shock/strut set ups. As far as the comment that they are hard on the shock towers...that's an interesting note and I'd like more data on that as I have never seen any ill effects there from coil over usage.
