Default Mongoose kit

Hi guys

Hi have been looking a little at the Mongoose kits from modularpowerhouse.com. I have heard a lot of praise, but what puzzles me is that they deliver the same kit and tune no matter what options you order( same tune and pulley). So if you order the air to air intercooler for example it is still the same tune. I would expect a tune that was tuned to my parameters like intercooled, 94 octance etc.. anybody have any experience with this?

They send you a basic tune. You still need to get the car tuned after install. The basic is just to get oyu to the dyno shop.

The tune is changed with the intercooler, it has 2 degrees more timing in each stage.

You do not need to get the car tuned after the mongoose kit, it is not a base tune its a custom tune. My car was full boltons and N/A cams when I bought the mongoose kit and I installed it here in como, drove to STL, and dynoed there. The tune was completely dead on, and I have been running it (hard) ever since (2+ years ago).

I recently finished a FMIC install and it caused zero problems with the tune. I have yet to add the timing because I am waiting for some dyno time on the same dyno to keep the HP level in check (and not blow the motor) but I anticipate zero problems.

Mongoose FTW. The entire point of ordering from MPH is to get Tim's tune, because simply put he is the best at tuning FI 2v cars in the world.

Do you live in GA? If not I would put the car on the rollers and get the A/F checked no matter what. I would never trust a tune 100% if its mail order.

My buddy has his cobra tuned up in Kansas City and it ran like crap in TN. I checked the A/F for him and it was way off because of the change in elevation. He got it retuned local and the car ran like a monster again.

Tim at MPH has an impeccable record for dead-on mail order tunes however still not a bad idea to get a dyno tune afterwards

I think you mean to say, its a good idea to get the tune checked on the dyno after install. I would agree, its not only a good idea but basically 100 percent nessicarry.

You need to dyno just to double check the tune, check for a bad fuel pump/injector (can come like that from the factory occasionally) etc etc. Anything can happen, but if the tune is not right MPH will help you over the phone to fix it, even sending you a new tune via email if it is required.

There is absolutly no difference between a "dyno tune" and the tune you get from MPH. There is nothing you can't do remotely that you can do at a shop. The hard fact of the matter is, once you get a good tweaked tune for one FI 2v with xx blower and xxx mods its pretty much going to be exactly the same for every other car, or close enough the user parameters in the xcal 2 can adjust them. I have always said, if your taking your car to the shop and they need to do more than 2-3 pulls on the dyno to get the tune right, your tuner doesn't know what he is doing.
