Default 4.6 Police Interceptor Question

I have the oppurtunity to buy the 4.6 from a wrecked 2004 police interceptor with 37K miles. Does anyone have an idea if this would be a good buy for replacement of my NPI 98 GT 4.6. I first thought it could be a good source for parts for the PI swap but after a little research it looks as if they were rated at 250hp from the factory. Anyone know how this engine would compare to a 99-04 GT 4.6??? Thanks for the help!!

The 04 4.6 from the factory is rated at 260 hp. How much will the engine cost? I mean ten hp is not much but have you thought about a PI swap? I really don't know how much a PI swap would cost but if you can buy the enigine install it and it cost less than a PI swap go for it.

If I had to guess it prolly has a little different cam profile then a GT. Their was a big thread about this not too long ago, as long as its a PI engine you should be satisfied! PI Engine>PI Swap all day everyday.

I think I will be able to get the engine for under $300. I am correct in guessing this would be a PI engine??

Man, thats a good deal, youre going to have to swap out the intake and a few little things. You may want to consider tossing some cams in while youre at it.

Great price. I believe it was the exhaust that made the 10 hp difference. The swap shouldn't be any different than putting an 04 Mustang engine in a 98.
