Unhappy Took a road trip and my heads about ready to explode! Help! (Exhaust)

Alright so i took a 4 hour road trip to Pittsburgh with the stang and I'm just miserable. I also had to drive home the same day so that's about 8-9 hours on the road. It's not that it wasn't comfortable. It was just that damn exhaust. I'm 20 years old and crusiing at 70mph was such a pain the A$$! I normally just take this car for short drives to work or to go out with the guys and don't mind the "aggressive" sound of my exhaust.. Probably because the windows are down with the system up.. But yah as far as road trips go..... lets justs say i was so miserable i was ready to go purchase a new stock catback and have it put on today.

ANYHOOT here's my setup. I brought the car a few months ago and it has flowmaster tips. So I'm assuming the whole catback is a Flowmaster series exhaust. I notice from the headers to the cats it's all stock, but from the mufflers to the tips it's all a newer piping. I'm experiencing this god awful indoor drone, which some research with the search button seems to point out Flowmasters are reputable of this. This drone..... going on for hours.. make baby jesus want to cry.. and... yahhh it's a little to loud for my liking in my cabin. And it was to cold to roll my windows down.. So i had to "manage" with this all day, lol.

Now my question is from personal experience can anyone recommend an aftermarket catback out there that is relatively quiet in the cabin, yet still packs a nice "punch" over oem? I'm thinking my best best is to get a OEM exhaust and weld on some Stainless Steel tips and call it a day? However I like a lesser restrictive exhaust and i would greatly appreciate any feedbacks or comments to help me solve this issue of mine. I would like to take more road trips with the stang. Thanks in advance.

-Chris

The Flowmaster's will have to go, they are the noisiest SOB things on the planet.

They sound great around town but on a long trip (especially if you have to have the windows up--that's what did it for me). See if you can get some MagnaFlows welded in at a local shop...

It's the type of muffler you have. And it's also the RPM you're at. I love my Flowmasters, there is nothing wrong with them. My Flows make a hummm at 2200-2400RPMs (right when she wants to be shifted).

My suggestion is when your about to go on a long trip.. find out what RPM your Flows resonate (hum) at.. and DONT set the cruise at that RPM. I would suggest ripping all hell loose coming on the on-ramp, power shifting ever gear so that you can cruise ar 1800RPMs in 5th gear or something of that nature.

That's just my 2 cents.. I heart Flowmasters.

You want STEEDA catback my friend. No drone even at highway speeds. It is louder than stock. I have stock headers and stock mid pipe. I drove my car 400 miles a week with no headaches or complaints.

That may work in Connecticut ("cruise at 1800RPMs in 5th gear")*, however here in Florida if you are not going 75-80 on I-95 you'll get run down by a semi...

Down here with the stock 3.27 gears the Flowmasters were devastating, as their peak harmonic DRONE was at 2150 rpm or so = 80 mph which is the minimum you can go without being run down. Even with the 3.73s it hit at 73 to 75 mph which was equally annoying...

------------------------------------
* - I once got a speeding ticket in Connecticut, someplace around New Haven on I-95. I was going 146.9 mph in a Toyota Cressida (with a Supra twin-turbo engine), even back then--1992 or so--it cost $750 or so; I had the cruise control on...

I was told my Mustang had Flowmasters on it when I got it two years ago and I drive about 500 miles per week. I try to stay above or below 2,000 but sometimes it just can't be avoided. My old ears just can't take much more. I've gotten to the point where I'm willing to trade anyone straigt up for used stock cat-backs.

Cliff, if your sure that MagnaFlows will get rid of that noise I'll have them welded in this week. But I don't want to waste money on something that will be about the same.

Magnaflows (not magnapacks) is what you want they will not leave your brain vibrating on long trips.
