Default Space between the TPS and the TB?

Is there supposed to be a space like this between the TPS and the TB? The stock one doesn't have a space like this.

I was under the hood today and noticed that one of the screws from the TPS had fallen out! That would explain why in the last week my idle has been going between 900 and 600! I took the TPS screw off of my stock TB and replaced it. Now the idle is all over the damn place! I pulled the negative cable off the battery for a half an hour and replaced it and let the car idle for around 20 minutes and it was idling beautifully at 900 rpms for about half that time. I figured the computer had figured out idle and went to the store to buy a rad cap. Now the idle hangs at around 1200 and the decel sucks and hangs too. DAMMIT!
I was thinking vacuum leak but I didn't touch anything other than to replace the TPS bolt. I was thinking that maybe that space isn't supposed to be there and I may have tightened the TPS bolt down too tight and it's sticking.

Suggestions?

John

It should be flush. Fix it.

Give the computer 3 drive cycles to correct itself.

I've tried every which way to flush it but it doesn't seat. Is there something I need to do with the sensor to get it to sit flush?

It should be flush. But I think it will be fine as long as it is in a fixed position where the sensor can get an accurate reading. If it can rattle back and forth then you probably want to fix it.
