Default 4v 5.0

Long story short, tired of low displacement, tired of SOHC, tired of 249rwhp, tired of iron.

Looking to build up a Aluminum 4.6 stroked to 5.0. Mod Max racing has the most attractive short block I could find. I want to keep it N.A. and was wondering what pistons to buy in order to achieve the best Compression ratio. Since there will be no boost I;m guessing the highest compression ratio will be the ideal choice. 10.30:1

I've been leaning towards Ford Racing DOHC heads mated with Comp Stage II cams. Anyone see a problem with the set up so far?

The Driveline would be completely rebuilt. New T-56. New 8.8 LSD. Aluminum driveshaft and axles, 3.73 gears.

Bottom line is I want this motor to be in the 375-400rwhp range. Is this possible or am I just a dreamer?

Eninge would be dropped into a Live Axle Coil Over 2,000 GT that will weigh no more than 3,000lbs when it's all said and done.

The suspension components are on their way. As soon as they are installed, and my wallet gets a bulge, Project 4v 5.0 will begin.

your tired of low displacement so you want a 5.0 LOL..... if your going all out on a NA build - big bore alum 5.4 (to 6.0) with 4v h/c/i would be a better way to go

I couild bore and stroke the 4.6 to 5.1, but the modular V8 has thin cylinder walls. It is my understang that the 5.4 is a stroked 4.6 with a larger deck height. How is such a large bore possible with the 5.4?

I kind of like the new 6.2 from the SVT Raptor. But it probably wouldn't fit.

Can't seem to find any Aluminum 5.4 blocks.

I'm not a drag racer, I am a Lemans kind of guy. So keeping my weight low is much more important than it should be. lol

why don't you want to use a s/c?? just seems like a awfull lot of money just to get to the 400RWHP mark. with the same amount you are putting in, you could achive 700 rwhp with a blower and built moter.

BOTH N/A:

a 4.6 4v will make 400rwhp+ with the right things

a 5.4 4v i have been told will see 550-600+rwhp with the right things

and i believe the 5.4's are bored to there max, to go any bigger i think you need to have it sleeved....

o and yea it will prolly cost more then what you paid for your car to do either one.....

Never use sleeves, i'm sorry but thats my $.02

A 4.6 3v will make 400 rwhp and it was only a third what I paid for my car, thank you very much! I'm very interested in a 4v swap, so get to it so I can see how it works out.

Also, a 5.0 in a 4.6 is a stroker crank and rods with a 3.75" stroke *I think, have to look to be positive* and a .020 over bore.

No sir. I'm running a stroker like I described, just about full bolt ons (although nothing extreme) even blower style cams but I also have P&P stock heads, my final tune on a Mustang dyno was 387 as of Friday, on a dynojet add 10% to that number.

I need a 100mm CAI, my BBK is strung out past it's limit but the techo piece is $500, and I'd rather put that towards my F/I fund. It's also a lower than stock compression in anticipation of a blower or TT, think if I put some more timing, a bigger intake, and a radical cam in it....

I'm seriously wanting some information on what I'd have to do to pull off a 4v swap, anyone know?

if you do it proper...

4.6 - ~3-5g's for the SB give or take depending on what the HP limit is...
5.4 - i think are upwards of 5+g's for the SB
intake - ~3g's
cams - ~1-1,500
heads (you need to buy 4v heads first..pref. 03/04) - port jobs are ~1g

*dont be suprised if you spend close or over 10g's with either the 4.6 or 5.4....*

almost positive:
+you will need a t-56 or 3650 trans (dont know what 05+ gt's come with)
+a ECU from a cobra
+diffrent motor mounts
+small changes in wiring possibly
+a new gauge cluster for the 8k+ rev limit (lol)

So I would for sure have to swap to a cobra block, no way to make it work on my 4.6 3v block? I have a hook up for a head job and Comp Cams is a Memphis local but still not cheap for a DOHC motor. I already have different motor mounts to accommodate the headers.

Nothing can be simple anymore
