I would recommend a tubular K member but I don't think it's a must. You're adding a lot of weight to the front of that car, you need to do something to help offset that. Plus the clearance is amazing.

Oh and were you planning on running the stock Eaton? If so be prepared to have 5" of s/c hanging out in front of you.

I've seen people have to cut holes in 3" cowl hoods and still have 2"+ hanging out.

You could always switch to a rear inlet KB or Whipple setup.
