Car is a 96 GT with 130K on it. Brought it home from work and went inside to take a nap then few hours later went outside and cranked it up and it almost started like it was being starved of fuel and stalled...so checked out the battery and cleaned the terminals and tried to jump it. It cranks well just won't turn over and start. Gonna replace the fuel filter later, but I am pretty sure it might be the fuel pump. I don't hear it turn on when the key is in the ignition like it use too. Any suggestions appreciated, thanks.

i would also check the cps it could be bad

crank the engine and watch the ceheck engine lamp. if it goes off while you are cranking than the crank sensor is ok. you should check fuel pressure and spark before doing anything else.

I also have a mustang gt 96 with 170,000 miles on it. I had the exact same problem you have. 5 weeks ago my car didn't won't to start so I left it alone for about 2-3 days and all of a sudden the car started working. strange? It worked for about 4 weeks and now the car won't start again. Let me know if changing your fuel pump worked because if it does I'm going to do the same thing.

if you twist your key to turn it in the on position and when you try to turn it over you get resistance and the car attempts to start, then its most likely you're fuel pump, especially if you dont hear it turn on, but first check the fuse & relay
