yeah with shorties you retain that low end. Go with FRPP (ford racing performance parts) whatever you do. Jet hot coated headers from them are amazing fit and finish, everything is designed by ford engineers anyway, so why not. They may be a little more expensive, but I reviewed them as well as others online for about a month and they were the best IMO and based on stangnet.com reviews. Next best or equally best is MAC, under that, BBK.

P.S. Cheap does not mean better, never go with flowtech.

That's true, but the problem is a lot of us have to smog, and long-tubes aren't smog legal, so the only choice we have is to go with shorties, or exhange headers everytime you have to smog your car, which some people really don't want to have to do.

I am planning on running long tubes and I have to do smog. With newer cars i.e. running OBD II they usually just plug into the computer to get the diagnostics on the car and never throw them up on the rollers. A good set of MIL eliminators will help you past that test. Plus it helps to go to a grage that is really into cars. I have one that myself and all of my friends go to and they guy gets a real kick out of the way the cars sound. Most of the cars are way over the max Db allowed by law and way illegal on the exhaust. He just grins and laughs as he says "She passed."

Shorties you will retain that low end tq which is good to get going with. But, I read somewhere that the shorty headers flow a little better than the stock manifolds and that shorty are a waste of moneyfor they amount of power you gain, as are midlengths. Long tubes are they way to go on the 4.6. They really love the way they flow. Invest in a good set of headers and MIL elims, and nice catted x-pipe and you should have no problems.

Doh.

With shorties, if you get thermal coated headers, you can see beneficial HP gains, 5-10hp+.

With mid lengths, or long tubes you will see much more than that...but what I don't understand is why you people are thinking you will lose torque with long tubes compared to shorties? You don't.

shorties are a joke, you have pretty decent stock manifolds to begin with..headers should be the last investment for a 97 mustang. you will see minimal gains. especially for the money. if you want a faster car, sell your mustang and get a real mans car. but if you are looking to waste 400 bucks and another 600 for labor just get a spray of funny juice, and that will be your only hopes to run with the real men.

A real man's car...like his 14-second Camaro? LOL. Come line it up with my GTO if you want to run with a real man bud. You may as well garage that boy toy til you get some real work done to it. It's no wonder the Camaro is dead...
