You can't run those tops at the track. You might get away with it a few times but they will ban you from the track. Besides those are ugly as ****!

ive got a manual top..not by choice.. the pump or something went out and i have to put the top up or down by hand...it aint heavy at all. the pump with all the other junk really aint worth taking out. possibly to gain a .1 of a second.

First off - i never said anything about plastic..?
I said "if i bought a FIBERGLASS hard top from Smoothline for my 98"
L2R
and if you'd done some homework B4 auto-posting you'd see that a smoothline top goes for 1300$-1500$ (moonroof N/Y) and it would NOT be a permanit change its a "removable hardtop" held on by bolts/clips/hooks just like the (97??) cobra, so selling it for "doodoo" i dont see happening and ruining the convert style wouldnt be happening either.

Second - I know what you guys are saying about getting a dif car and im looking into it (looking at a 442 atm) =)!!! But i like my stang and i bought it vert because it has profesional mods rating around 3k with receits and only 55k miles and i bought it for 7k! great deal but at the end of the day i just dont see dragging in a convert resonable.. and my buddy said its added weight so the way i see it is 2-3k for a new prject car for JUST drag and Sundays XD or get a hardtop for 2-3k.

so i was just weighing the pros and cons and was woundering if the ratio of weight is more or less with/without a cloth-top
I wasnt trying to lose weight.. i have a V8 putting out over 300hp idc about 10pounds i asked because mustangs have bad rear grip as it is last thing i need is LESS weight in the back.

argh, you'll be adding weight if you just add the "removeable" hardtop.
if you remove the cloth top, it will be worth squat. those tops are pretty much for putting on with the top retracted, not taking all the guts out.

also, how are you not trying to lose weight with a post entitled "conv. strip = weight loss?"??

with only 300hp, i really wouldnt worry about this, you can probably stil run the car with a cloth top at a track anyways.
I'd just leave it the way it is, and look cool in the summer with the top DOWN (not removed)
