Default 2002 Intake air temp sensor/MAF PLEASE HELP

I'm a new member here, I just bought a 2002 GT five speed coupe. I went to install a K&N FIPK I noticed the intake air temp sensor was not plugged into a connector on the stock intake tube. I was reading online and someone said 2002’s did not have a seperate IAT sensor. So I figured the owner before me installed an intake tube off of another vehicle just to sell it. I installed the FIPK without the IAT sensor and my car started to stall out while I was cruising down the road when I put the clutch in when coming up to a light. I took it to work and scanned the check engine light that was on sense I bought it (I was told it was due to an off road h pipe and no cats) it and it came up with an IAT code (P0113) I cleared the code and the light went off for 10 min and came back on. I got a can of CRC MAF cleaner and cleaned the MAF hot wires. I don't know if this fixed it or not as I have not cleared the code again yet. I cannot seem to find a piggyback connector on my vehicle for the IAT either… is this due to the fact that the IAT is integrated with the MAF? do you think this code meands I need to replace the MAF sensor? If the MAF is bad should I replace it with a stock unit? Please help.

If the hole is there, is it plugged? If not it needs to be.

IS your MAF plugged in? It's a IAT code not a IAC code.

The IAC is not integraded with the maf the IAT is.

And Stop spraying crap at your MAF.

No just make sure it's plugged in, clear your codes and try it again.

My bad i missed typed "IAT" the MAF is in fact plugged in.

when i bought the car the stock intake tube was not bolted to the fender and it had a IAT sensor... I figured the priviouse owner took off a cold air intake when they sold the car and just threw on a junk yard intake from an earlyer mustang.

I only cleaned the MAF with the appropriate cleaner after i found the code and reset the DTC's and the engine light came back on the 2nd time I started it.

Do you think I need to replace the MAF?

I would really hope not. You've already checked for vacuum leaks, I assume. The plug that goes into your maf. Does it fit like it should?

It sounds to me as though you might have an early model MAF as well, does the connector to the MAF have 4 or 6 wires?

Here's what the shop manual says about P0113...

I checked for vacuum leaks and there don't appear to be any.

The MAF is a 6 wire sensor

The plug fits snug into the MAF connector and locks in like it should as well. all the wires in the MAF connector fit snug too.

Thanks for the info guys.

I guess I'll go ahead and order a new Mass Air Flow Meter. I just hope that is the problem cause they are expensive. Any other advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thumbs up

I think I just figured out the problem!

After looking at the MAF sensor all day long I just realized it only has four blades comming out of it an it should have 6 to match the 6 wire connector.

I think the previous owner pulled the whole intake tube including the mass air flow sensor off of a 2001 or newer stang (I hate stupid people).

Anyway thanks for all the help guys!
