If your getting gear whine period. take it back either get your money back for the install and take it to another shop or have them redo it properly.

In a stock or mostly stock mustang the gear whine should be either nonexistent or barley audible.

most gears have somewhat of a whine to em. when you say its annoying im assuming its loud and which it shouldnt be. it should be very faint at cruising speeds with the radio off at most. with the radio on or under any kind of acceleration it shouldnt be able to be heard.

Well the gears are Motive 3.73 and a bearing kit as well. I took it back yesterday to the guy that did the job and he said oh its just a break in period thing. BS. When i left the day he returned it to me i reset my trip odometer and ive gone 60 and i still havetn recalibrated the speedometer. thanks for the knowledge

Bad install. The backlash is not set right. Where did you get them installed?

I've heard people say any gear that isnt FRPP will be have more noise, but a whine can go either way. As far as the shift ****, the installer probably didnt mark the d-shaft when he took it out...

Have the backlash double checked.

exactly right. i had FRPP 3.73's in my '02,installed them myself with NO whine whatsoever. What kind of differential fluid/friction modifier (if any) did he use?
