Default cams and springs

Ok... i've searched these forums, and got alot of good info, but i still have some questions about cams.

I think i've nailed it down to Hi Tech stage 2 or CMS stage 1. For either of these it says a spring change isn't required. The keyword here is "required". Now... could they be saying that in an attempt to create more sales? I mean i understand it's possible (i know the profiles on these cams are not too agressive) but does that mean the stock springs will be living on borrowed time? Because let's face it... the labor for a spring change is usually outrageous, and that probably pushes alot of people away from the idea, who just want more power and sound, but wan't excellent drivability, and don't care to do heads, or feel the need to rev past 6500 rpm.

Has anyone on here (who haven't changed the springs) put alot of miles on their stang since the cam change? Has anyone had any issues as a result of using stock springs?

Opinions can be very biased, based on who you talk to, so i'm hoping i can get some honest feedback here. I'm just looking for reassurance that i will not overstress my stock springs (over the long haul) if i don't over rev my car, miss shift's' etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Honestly, if I were putting in cams. I wouldnt risk taking the chance with the stock springs. It could end up costing you alot of money in the end.. Especially, if one of your springs fail. It could put one of your valves in the top of a piston..

I just did cams and springs last week. I didn't want to do springs but my friend insisted and I finally bought them. I wasn't convinced but after changing out the old springs I'm glad I did them bc the were very weak when compared to the new ones. I wanna say the new ones had at least 50% more resistance. So take it from someone who felt the way u do. Do them u won't regret it.

Thanks for the advice! I just wish these damn springs wern't such a labor intensive job! If you had to choose between CMS stage 1's and Hitech stage 2's, which one would you personally pick?

I know a guy that's selling CMS stage 1's for under $400 brand new. That's what's making these very tempting also.

I'd personally would get the CMS Stage 1's because I think they sound great and aren't too lope-y and I also live in CA so I could pass SMOG w/ them

I would go with CMS stage IIs if I were doing cams. I went with 2.5s.

We took our time since it was our first time doing it. I'd say 13-14hrs from driving on the ramps to solving all the little issues. 4 hrs to get the timing cover off. 3 hrs for the springs. The other seven putting everything back together and figure outthe little things
