Default Few questions

I just picked up a 2000 Mustang GT with 45k miles on it. I have a few questions since i know nothing about these cars.

1 - my drivers side window is not working properly. when i shut the door the window comes out a bit at the back part of the door, basically i have to open and close the window again to make it fit properly. is this a common issue, hard to fix?

2 - after how many miles do you have to change the transmission fluid? (my car is a manual)

3 - how long do you guys warm up your car in the summer? how long in the winter?

4 - when driving is it safe to shift around 2000 rpms, because the rpms fall down below 1500. i know this car has a lot of torque down low but is it in any way bad to be below 1500 rpms or is this normal for these cars?

i think thats it for now
thanks

questions 1 & 2 I have no idea. 3 I'd say no more then 30 sec. summer and no more then 1 min. in winter (at least here in Cali for me). 4 it doesn't really matter I don't think. I shift between 2500 and 3k

As far as warmups, in the summer when its above 70' I let it warm up for atleast 3-5 mins before I drive it. When its cold out I will let it warm a good 8-10 mins. Just make sure it is up to operating temp before you get on it.

As for the shifting, just judge it by the feel/sound of the motor. There is no harm driving it at 12-1500 rpms and accelerating from there, it just depends if ur on a hill or if its bogging etc. I have 410s now, and I can crusie around in 5th at 35mph and ease into the gas and pull right on up to 55mph easily

As for tranny fluid, I've been told 75k for first change but I may be wrong.

The window thing sounds like the track is misaligned or the door hinge is sagging. I wouldn't be able to tell without further inspecton.

Hope this helps atleast a little bit.

1. +1 to devon. sounds like the window could have come off the track and/or is misaligned.

2. manuals tend to be a fill for life kind of deal. i wouldn't worry about it.

3. summer i just tend to let the rpms drop to the normal idle speed then im off. winter...well i don't really ever drive it in the winter. either way, don't get on it until you are at operating temperature.

4. sure its fine and safe. sometimes i'll even shift at 1750 rpms. v8s drive different then the 4 banger than you are probably used to.

btw...how many miles are on the car?

Good advice above... but with #3 I would say: 1-3minutes for summer & 4-5 minutes winter. I don't know where your at in Canada but thats what happens here in Minnesota, which as warm summers & cold winters

My driver's side window does the same thing yours does. Apparently it's somewhat common.

It's annoying, but what I do is roll it all the way up, then blip it down a bit before I open the door. This seats it in the window frame, and it won't hit the top of the body when you close the door.

My passenger door window does it. I have yet to find a solution, but it's not on my priority list currently. I let mine warm up for about a minute, then I don't go over 3K RPM till it's at full operating temp.

You don't really need to wait around before driving it (unless it's cold) - but the key is do not drive it hard until your operating temp is up (around the middle of the temp gauge).
