Default diy nitrous tune....is it worth it?

just ran at the track on a 50 shot with no tune. lookin to do 75 next weekend and follow that with 100 the following week. i have a steeda timing adjuster. i know all you do for a tune is retard the timing and adjust air/fuel ratio. is it worth a shot, or is it a disaster waiting to happen. what do you guys think?

I know a 75 shot you are ok.. I have also heard you are ok on 100 but dont go anymore than that without a tune. I had to get a tune on mine with 100 shot but my compression is like 11:1 and I had a bunch of other things conflicting the computer too as far as air/fuel ratio go. But you will be ok with that just dont go over 100 without some tuning.

good advice from someone with some experience with nitrous. thanks a lot. i think im gonna retard the timing 2 degrees before stepping up to 75, just to help avoid some detonation. ive been researching it all day and it was recommended to retard timing 2 degrees for every 50hp of nitrous. is there anything you would recommend doing with a 100 shot.

I'll try to post some pics tomorrow of my buddys engine after he ran a 75 shot untuned. Not sure what he will get at the scrap yard for it but it's not going to be enough to pay for a new engine.

I would love to show you what happened to my engine with a 350 shot un-tuned but it got thrown out lol. Just use a factory tune and retard the timing a degree or two and make sure your using 93 octane.

this always seems to be a two sided fence when it comes to tuning or not tuning. my car handled the 50 shot no prob throughout sencond and third spraying at 2500 at wot. i plan on swapping out for a colder set of spark plugs, retarding the timing two degrees and starting with a short spray and working up from there. i'm taking baby steps to try to minimize the risk of destroying my engine. i talked to the manufacturer at compucar and they swear up and down that it is a plug and play system and all you need to do is run 93 octane. but seeing that they aren't a big name company, i was thinking about talking to the guys at nos or nx.

The guys at NX told me a 75 shot was safe and after that do some tuning.Or you could have problems.I have used nitrous for about 7 years and love it.. Cheap easy horsepower.. I sprayed a zex 100 dry shot on a stock D16 non vtec civic for a year and its still running to this day.DAILY DRIVER too..But I moved on to something with some ***** without spray.. I still find myself using it... I sprayed 75 shot on my 97 with no timing retard at all and nothing ever happened.. 3 bottles to be exact.. Now I have a pi head swap on this car with a 100 shot and still no problems but I do have a nitrous tune now..Be sure you gap your plugs down to 35 though.
