Default Sounds like mudder tires wawawawaw...

2000 GT, 3.73 rear end, auto trans, Nankang Ultra Sport NS2 tires all around, bought the car in Jan this year and all seemed quiet. I have recently noticed the sound and it is getting louder. The sound is a low pitch but loud moaning similar to having mudders (wawawawaw) on the car especially around 55-75 mph. There is no noticible grinding and turning dosent effect it. Could this be a tire problem? The tread is probably 50-60% gone and the rears are 285/30 20". If not, what could it be? I have researched for over an hour and threads with this problem are either getting grinding noise or steering effects the noise. I will be lifting the car tomorrow to shake everything. With the car in neutral off the ground, if I spin a rear wheel, should I hear anything?

Is the sound coming from the rear wheel? It could be tires, bent wheel have you curb checked anything? Also spin the wheels when it is in the air and listen carefully at both sides, if one side is louder than the other its most likely a bad wheel bearing. My right rear bearing went at about 77k miles, how many miles are on your car?

Does the sound change on different asphalt surfaces? My tires do the same thing.

If you get your tires balanced (this is cheap - like 10 bucks a wheel at most I think) it will go away.

Default Solved...

My front wheel cambers were way negative which was doing a number on the inside edge of my old Nankang tires. Installed some Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's and had a front allignment done. Quiet and smooth!
