Been A While - Intro(Help)

i just got a 02 gt for $6900 after many many months of searching. 86,500 miles on it and only two parts have been replaced and the only mod is flowmaster mufflers/pipes. stock premium 17" rims with fairly new tires. clutch and tranny feel great. only have one real blemish on the front bumper which was touched up. leather is almost immaculate, engine runs great. clean carfax, no wrecks, one owner.
only deal i found better was an 03 gt for i think $6000 that was a few hours away and didn't have leather and i think had a few more miles. guy ended up sellin it to a dealer though, who immediately marked up the price to $9000.
my advice - do a LOT of searching and research. a lotta people dog the crap outta these cars, and it shows. but when you find the right one thats been treated fairly, you'll know it. also, it helps to have a friend who is a certified ford mechanic to check the cars out with you

awesome thats around what I want to spend but i do have friend who is a certified mechanic but not specifically to ford. I am looking like I said for something near stock that still drives decent ha. I know what you mean about people ******* them. Ive got 2 months to find the car and even then Im not in a hurry.
I just am wondering what mods I will do this fall/winter to try and learn more about cars - trying to learn to fix em up and this is going to be my project car.

well if you're mainly interested in a tear down/build up project car, i would suggest maybe checkin your local auctions for theft recoveries, minor wrecks, or fresh water damaged cars. you could 03 and 04 cobras for around 8500, usually with relatively easy work to be done to get em runnin. GT's go for way cheaper. if you have a friend with a dealer's license, you could really score some good deals, you just gotta be willing to do the research into it and be willing to take the risk of gettin a car thats a lot more f-ed up than you bargained for
