Default 4.6L 2v PCV

Hi Everyone,

I now have about 73,000 on my 2004 gt (5spd). I've heard that its a good idea to change the PCV valve. How often should this be changed?

Also, any other suggestions for maintenance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You don't really need to change it unless it's not working...

Don't mean to hijack but how do you know when it stops working? cause I have an 04 GT too and when I look around the base of my PCV valve, I see some dark spots on the valve covers, sorta like it may be leaking a bit. I got almost 39k miles.

pull it out (straight up) and shake it...if you can hear the little metal piece moving around its good, if it doesn't make any noise it is gunked up and you need a new one.

Not true.
You should replace your PCV every 100,000 or so.

+1 on shaking.
Just shake it, if it clicks and moves freely, it's fine. If not, replace. However, as I said it should be replaced periodically. If in fact you have never replaced it, or bought the car used it's an extremely cheap part to replace simply for piece of mind; Do it even if it's in working condition.

They are four bucks and thirty seconds to swap. There is no need to test. Pull out your old one, step on it, and throw in a new one.
