Default thinking about buying a ’

Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying a mustang (94-98 sn95 style) and wanted to ask a few questions before making my decision. I know that style mustang is pretty slow stock because of the added weight over the fox-body, and the smaller 4.6-liter engine, but how well does it respond to upgrades? Given a $1000 budget (for example) for bolt-ons how much power could a GT make?

Also, what are the weak points to that generation 'stang? What should I look for when I go shopping?

Thanks.

I had an '01 GT vert (AT) but a 16 year old girl turned across traffic in front of me and it was totaled. Now I have a 96 GT vert (5 spd) w/67000 miles and am very happy with it. I think the first owner made some upgrades, because it seems as fast as or faster than the 02. But maybe it's the manual transmission.

The 4.6 is a great engine and can really respond to upgrades. I'm planning on replacing the heads with some hi performance heads and putting in a new cam. I'm sure it will scream.

With that budget, you should get gears, intake, mufflers and computer chip. l'm not sure but l think you'll end up with about 240-250hp.

That's not too bad for a grand. My personal budget would be a bit more than that, but I like to pose that question as a barometer of upgradability. Thanks.

It will respond very well to upgrades. The biggest problem is simply the lack of air the car has access to. heads, intake, etc. will help a lot. For your budget, you should think of gears and exhaust first. Stay away from nos. Build a car that is truly fast and then add nos if you need the extra kick.
