Default High RPMs, metallic grinding

As I get on the highway OCCASIONALLY, I notice that if I give 1-4 gears enough gas to get up to about 4500RPMs, the shifter makes a not very loud, but highly toned metallic grinding sound that is intermittent somewhat, it sounds very metallic, and extremely unhealthy. Is this something to be worried about? It doesn't even do this all the time, just for some reason it felt like it today.

mine just started doing it after i got my car back from my accident. looking at the repair info they added a quart of tranny fluid. i can hear my tranny gears making some noise and my shifter seems to rattle occasionally. sometimes i drive and its 100% fine other times i hear noise. i ordered a gasket kit (shift handle to base, and base to tranny) and some RP fluid and i'm gonna throw all that in this weekend and see if it cures it. i'll let you know if it helps me.

Are you sure it's coming from the shifter? also if you have an aftermarket shifter it may be making some noise, i have heard that hurst shifters make alot of noise.
