what direction do you guys face your actual sub? I have experiment w/ different positions and the sub seems to hit "harder" when the speaker is facing the read of the car, as opposed to facing the front

The speaker will determine the cubic air space needed for the speakers. Not all 10"s or 12"s require the same size box. It also depends on if you port the box and exactly the frequency for which you "tune" it.

Look up the speakers you have on their site and find out the air space needed. Try not to make the box square and throw some funny angles in there.
