Default clicking when I acclerate, 5-speed

Since, im still a newbie, I think I deserve at least one newbie question. I did some reaserch and everything points to one thing, the U-joints.

I finally bought a used 02 mustang GT 5-speed, its AWESOME BTW. Anyways before I bought it I heard a slight clicking noise when I test drove it, but didnt really think anything of it, I figured it was the way I was shifting or whatever, BUT when I drove home I heard it pretty loud when I accelerated the more I accelerated, the faster it clicked, it was coming right from the pedal area....

What could this be, since Im still new to mustang. Everything points to u-joint replacement, is this expensive, Also, any other ideas what this could be.

BTW- the shifting feels smooth and strong, I feel no weakness....

Hey Cutie, sounds like your car might be infected with, "the clap." No big deal. The cost to change a U Joint is minimal and you could probably do it yourself. Very easy. Does the sound click or does it chirp? A lot of these cars chirp and in fact most stangs through the foxbody generation do too. The chirping is that freakin throw out bearing. I'd be interested to hear back from you.

Does your clutch pedal itself vibrate?

is it a clicking or a ticking??

a ticking would be an exhaust leak. it clicks louder and faster the more your accelerate

throw your car in 4th gear at 30 mph and give it 3/4 gas... if its clicking like crazy, its most likely an exhaust leak

otherwise, i have no idea what it is lol

a clicking can be a ticking... just picking your brain here and making you think that maybe it is your exhaust connection from the drivers side header to the midpipe connection

Hey, I didn't think of that =) It could be an exhaust leak. If the leak is at your header this would give you the opportunity to swap over to some shorties or go for the torquey long tubes =)

I have to drive it a little more to feel if the clutch pedal vibrates, from what I remember it felt pretty normal.

As far as the exhaust leak, well the guy already had some nice longtube BBk headers installed on it awhile back, he said hes had no problems with it, but anything is possible. I might just bite the bullet and take it into a shop....

Thanks for the info, If anyone else has any other ideas, Im all ears....

So the ol' installed aftermarket long tubes huh? I know for a fact those things are a pain to fit right. That could be your issue. Gaskets go bad all the time, especially if they weren't seated right.

i was gonna suggest exhaust leak too. i swapped out my midpipe today and didnt have a passenger manifold gasket and it ticks/clicks like a mother ****er. 5th gear do 40mph and stomp on the gas. if it gets louder and ticks faster instantly its exhaust not drivetrain related.

next time let the clutch out a little quick, listen to hear a loud bang, if so its U joints, if its just ticking, its exhaust
