Default mgw shifter install

I have never installed a shifter before. this is in a 99 cobra. anyone that has done this install please run it thru me step by step. I know it will come with directions but this will help to.everything from removing plastic panel in tray to setting shift stops. I have gasket bob gaskets. do I use those or silicone, or both>do I use locktite on the screws.I have been quoted 150 bucks for install and I am like wtf????? cant be that friggin hard.

wow $150, no dude do it yourself. i did mine about a year ago and did my friends about 2 months ago.

remove shifter boot
remove rubber insulation(4 bolts)
remove the stock shifter bolts(4 bolts)
remove stock shifter
remove plastic pivot ball on the shifter(underneath) and install it on MGW shifter
clean the contact area and use the silicone that MGW supplied you
install shifter and repeat steps backwards

might be a good time to change out your tranny fluid if you haven't already. you're going to love this shifter, so much better than the stock pos

heres a write up with lots of pics

It's not that hard bro lol. I installed one on my 04 cobra. Just take your time, double check you work, and read the directions.

Where at in IL are you?

With Cobra Bob's gasket you do not need to use any sealant, nor should you...

wow, 150 bucks for like an hour and a half job tops lol.

It's really simple the directions they give you are very detailed.

I installed my friends on his 99 gt... best shifter available for sure imo.

it takes like 30 mins, its super easy. I had to borrow a tool to do it and did the install sitting in a parking lot.

i have a MGW sts in my 01 bullitt, u really shouldnt have to adjust ur shift stops since the tr3650 trani has internal ones however if u want a much shorter shift you may adjust to do so just make sure all gears fully engage, MGW is by far my favorite shifter, jus dont keep loosening and tightening the swivel bolts or else next thing you know you will power shift and it will sling the entire handle around on you

^^^shrink that sig a bit there buddy.

OP: 150 is ridiculous. theres only four bolts total (not including the handle) in the whole install. they are robbing you blind.

those rates are equivalent to over $200/hr, which is straight BS.

The OP has a '96 Cobra, he needs to set the stops with the T-5 tranny.

Something is wrong if you cannot clamp the lever up tightly. I have had the lever off 10-15 times with no issues--it is a very robust clamp.
