Default 2001 bullitt gearbox rebuild

Hi everyone, i'm looking into the pros and cons of rebuilding my manual transmission myself, its a pain because it would save money if i do it but i would have to buy the tools so it may work out at the same cost, the first thing i need to know is if anyone knows a good shop that can do the rebuild for me in los angeles (if you have a rough idea of price that would be great too) and the second is if anyone knows where i can get a rebuild kit for my car if i decide to do it myself.

any help on this is much appreciated

thanks

kim

I'm a pretty good mechanic, but I wouldn't even attemp it. Have you looked at an exploded schematic sheet of what's inside? There are 100's of tiny roller bearings throughout. Ford wouldn't even attemp it when mine went. They replaced it under warranty. It's too bad your warranty has expired. good luck.

oh really, i was worried about that because some of the quotes i got were high, but if i'm going to buy a replacment box anyway i might just try it, who knows i might get lucky, if anyone knows somewhere i can get it rebuilt for a resonable price please let me know,

is it rare for these things to go because there doesn't seem to be much info about it.

thanks

Its like almost all things...the way you take it apart...is the way you put it back together. Take pictures...document your steps. If you can't get it, then take it to someone, but if you do get it, then you just save yourself a pretty penny.
