Default Engine RPMs

What causes alot of the 4.6s to rev up pretty fast but take so long for the rpms to go back down. Is there any way to make them go down faster?

rev up fast - very good engine design

rev down slow - rotating inertia. once the assembly gets spinning there's alot of kinetic energy, the only thing causing it to slow back down are frictional & windagelosses. put it in gear and let out the clutch, that will make it slow down faster.

i do that some times but id just like to not have to do that every time i want the rpms to go back down besides its not too healthy for the clutch.

Wouldnt an aluminum flywheel help this???

yes, but i don't know how much.

as far as hurting your clutch, thats not going to happen by just revving your motor in neutral and using the clutch to slow it down. it undergoes a lot more stress even when you accelerate lightly. that is if you're not dropping the clutch, just ease it out to slow it down faster.
