I read the whole thread to see if someone said this but, I have a 2000 GT and when I bought it from the grandma driver it had the misfortune of being owned by, it would cladder like crazy even with 92. Two fill ups with fuel system cleaner run on nothing but the freeway later, It runs on 87 smooth and quiet and powerful. I am going to have a local reputable shop clean my top end of all carbon buildup because I'm sure that simple additives didn't get everything, but I don't know what those results will be yet. Higher octane fuel reduces pinging because your timing is being retarded (no pun intended) by the knock sensor, to make up for the carbon buildup on your pistons. Clean out carbon buildup and put 87 back in, and bob's your uncle!
