I don't like wild goose chases. I bent the crap out of the metal gasket so I could get a good look at the flywheel, I found nothing. No play, no cracks, no noise. I could also see the starter, which is nowhere near the flywheel. So I went back to the top of the engine with a screwdriver as a stethoscope. Where the knocking is the loudest is on the passenger side valve cover, near the back of the engine. I can hear it quite well by putting the screwdriver on the second valve cover bolt from the back of the engine. It sounds almost like it's RIGHT there, which leads me BACK to lash adjusters. Could my luck be so ****ty that I managed to find another 4.6L with a sticking lash adjuster?
Did you get the engine out of a salvage yard? if so they usually come with a warranty. If it has a warranty take it to them and have them figure it out
I listened to your video, if thats not a internal engine noise than you better call the ghost busters, cause your chasing a ghost. My opinion, you have a damaged bearing somewhere.

Pick U pull and the warranty is gone.

It's no bearing, I can absolutely guarantee that. Stethoscope reveals no knocking in the oil pan or block region. When I had the oil pan off, I checked the rod bearing caps and there was 0 play in them. Even tapping with a rubber mallet didn't produce a knock. It varies in intensity on different days, even just killing it and restarting it can change how loud it knocks. Sometimes it barely audible and other times it sounds like the video. Disabling one cylinder at a time does nothing to it. Load on the engine does nothing to it.
All of this leads me to a valve train knock. My money is on a lash adjuster. I will crack the valve cover and have a peek at the adjusters, see if one of them is bleeding down.
You just said engine speed does nothing to change it, yet you think its the valvetrain??
I said that when it gets revved over 1100RPM, it shuts up. So yes, the oil pressure increases and pumps the lifter up more. I had a 94 Mark VIII that did something alot like this. Knock at startup, knock at idle, but quiet down above 1200RPM. Took it apart and found bad lash adjusters.
maybe check your oil pressure at idle, hot motor, and fresh oil change.
I tried the oil change and the seafoam, nothing. I am going to pull the fecking valve cover off in the next couple of days and swap in the good lash adjusters from my GT motor.
