Default Stall speed converter

Hey guys, I have a 2001 Mustang Gt which is an automatic. I'm thinking of getting a set of stage 2 cams from American Muscle. The website says that I need a 2000 plus stall speed converter for the cams, is this true? Do I really need this for my car and if i do, why? Thanks for any info.

a stall converter is designed to slip to a certain rpm.like they say you need a 2000 stall converter. the turbin inside the converter dosnt start to spin the input shaft of the trans till around 2000 rpm, then the car will move.i mean the car will move a little but dosnt fully drive the input till that rpm range.your cams will raise the torque curve up so they want you to install a looser coverter to get the engine into its power band instead of lugging the engine lower to where it isnt getting into the optimum powerband rendering your new power usless.

your factory stall is right around 2300-2400. i would recomend going with at least a 3000stall and a shift kit. on mine i have a 3200 stall cause i dont make power till about 3000. if you daily drive the car it will take getting used to. the higher the stall the less street manners they have.
