Default Ideas in figuring out a "clunk"?

Hi all, I'm trying to go through my car and start replacing things that will make it "like it once used to be." (i.e. bushings, etc.).

Most importantly on my list is a almost scary clunk, however. It's not really a clunk...here's how I can describe it. When I hit the brakes quickly, something in the front end skips/slips, and I can feel it through my seat and pedal. It's as if something is loose in the front end, and when I hit the brakes, going just a couple miles an hour, I feel this clunk/skip, what have you.

Any ideas?

sounds like one of your ABS sensors is on it's way out. Sometimes you can just clean them off real good with brake cleaner, because they get a large build-up of metal shavings and grease from the brakes.

Does the front end dive at all when this happens? Could be struts?
