Default Fuel sending unit float posistion

My fuel gauge has been reading wrong since I put in my s/c and a new fuel pump in. I just dropped my tank and the fuel sending unit float was bent so I bent it to where I guessed that it should be but I was wrong. Now instead of reading a quarter tank lower then it actually is it reads a quarter higher. Does anyone know what posistion that float is supposed to be in? A 90 degree bend? Thanks for your help and sorry if this has been covered before I tried to use the search function but I suck at it. Thanks again.

This happened to me. Bend the float to where it hangs just above the pickup sock of the pump. That way, when you are at empty on the gauge, you will still have a little fuel left.
