It looks like stage 1 and stage 2 comp cams have the same lift (.55)? The only thing different is duration?

Correct. Lift and lsa are the same, but the duration is higher with the stage 2's.

you'll need springs for stage 2's

What are the gains in HP in stage 1 and 2 cams? does it worth it to buy the valve springs also?

20-30 hp on stock heads is average. With most stage 1 type cams, upgrated valve springs are not necessary...especially if you stay in the stock rev range.

On americanmuscle.com it wants you to get adjustable cam gears but at 289 bucks is it needed as well... plus springs and retainers if getting stage 2's? cams are like a thousand dollar job it looks like

Nah, all you really need is this:

http://www.modularheadshop.com/Articles/Cam%20gears.htm

Just get the matched cam gears, and do whatever cams you decide. This way you won't have to degree them. Just measure the specs and check your ptv clearence.

I would stay away from the stage 2's, because ptv contact is possible if they're installed at the advertised specs.

comp stag 2 degreed will only leave u with .005 thousandths clearance. u need at least .020 to b safe from ptv contact. its not the lift that u need to worry about with contact it is the duration. the trick flow stg1 cams are badass and they will clear if degreed and are almost identical to the comp stg1 cams tht i have, and theyre about $150 less too. most people dont kno and always say the stg2 comp cams fit fine but the people tht dont have problems most likely have stock cam gears tht came a lil bit retarded or they are tapping real light at high rpm's and thy cant tell.until thy take the heads apartlol. call Nick Mckinny at Modular Head Shop. he is the freakin MAN whn it comes to modular cams. he is a nice guy and will hook u up. but the tf stg2 will NOT fit in yur car.(with out modification to valves or pistons)

+1... I couldn't agree more! Nick's findings have been an eye opener.
