Default rear end problem?

when i turn my rear end squeaks, but its not like a metal on metal squeak, its more like a whining, could this be the LSD? and also when i make a sharp left there is a big rattling from under the rear, like the driveshaft is banging on something. i can't find the problem or anything leading to it. it may be that the exhaust is hitting the driveshaft or something but i cant find the problem. and help?

It sounds like the LSD clutch packs binding...

Have you changed the gear oil or had any work done to the rear axle in the past?

good idea, that may be it for the noise when i turn, but it isn't consistent. and the previous owner had the rear end oil changed at a votech before he sold it to me and they over filled it. so oil was coming out the overflow tube on the axel but i'm thinking they didn't seal it well enough and now it may be dry. i'm in my garage now about to check it out

It may also be that they did not add any friction modifier. Many/most synthetic gear oils don't need it but all dino oils do--without f/m the clutch packs will bind/pop/click etc.

i think your very right cliffy, i just changed it with some full synthetic and all the noises went away. everyday when i would make the slow sharp turn into my driveway it would make all sorts of noises, which now i recognize may have been the clutch packs messing with the driveline, because it sounded like the driveshaft was gaining and losing the small about of slack that was in it (if that makes sense). but after a lot of circles in my neighborhood the noises were gone. thanks guys
