Default Motive Performance vs FRPP gears

Hey MF,

I tried searching throughout the forums, but couldn't really find any helpful information. I found pieces here and there but was looking for some more solidified information. What are better and why? Motive Performance gears or FRPP? I heard the FRPP are quieter but is that it? As far as 373s go, I would go with the FRPP but I am thinking about getting the MP 390s. That's why I am curious to see what the differences actually are. Thanks.

SO FRPP OR MOTIVE PERFORMANCE?

P.S. I'm making 400rwhp

Many of the FRPP gears are mode by Motive (there's a way of decoding the part numbers, just Google it).

There is nothing wrong with Motive gears that I have been able to nail down--just a bunch of anecdotal crap from those who are immediately aroused because they cost less, and those who had an install go bad and they want to blame the gears. Much akin to those who dismiss FLAPS parts just because they are FLAPS parts, and because a friend of a friend of theirs read on the web that "XYZ" after market parts are crap.

More often than not if you dig deep you'll find that they were installed by some moron whose concept of a complete tool kit is three Crescent wrenches, a carpenter's hammer, and a 7-in-1 screwdriver.

Motive gears are made in Italy, and used as OEM gears in Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Alfa Romeos, etc.--and the Italians do know a thing or two about high performance automobiles...

The "FRPP" 3.73s in my car were made by Motive and installed by me 60k miles ago.

Also not babied, also no problems of any kind...

Either are fine really. I have Motive 3.90's, and they've been trouble free in the 3 years that i've had them.

They really are the perfect compromise imo. I've never once regreted getting this gear.

Good thread OP.

I think the 3.90s would be an excellent resolve to the 3.73 VS 4.10 battle.

And Cliffy, thanks for the info. If they're good enough for Lambos, they're good enough for me! haha

I specifically selected 3.73s as I do a LOT of driving, 30k to 45k a year, on the Interstates--3.90s were a close second.

IMHO, here in the flatlands of Florida 4.10s are overkill on a heavily used DD, I can actually launch quite aggressively in 2nd gear and when the ricers want to run I often do it to avoid the 1-2 shift--they'll get me a bit right off, but when I wind up to 60 in 2nd they are toast.

When "tranny-time" comes I'm getting either a custom built 3650, or a TKO-600 with the 2.87 1st gear...

My Motive 4.30s are silent, and I beat on em too. I think I broke them in for about an hour, then let 'er rip.

Like that other guy said above.. it's all in the install.

Make sure you get the install kit too. Should be about $40. And 2 bottles of Royal Purple gear lube.
