Default What is the process of forging?

I just got to thinking, I don't really know what "forging" means. Well I know what it means, but what is like the actual process of doing it to a motor? What parts? Cams, crank, what else? How do they "forge" the parts? Or do you buy all new parts? I just don't know.

It is usually the pistons, rods, and crank. It is the way the parts are made. Cast parts are done as a casting process.

Forging is done by forcing the parts from stock into shape which is much stronger.

Forging is a metal forming process. Most engines have cast metal parts which are weaker and cheaper to produce.

Forged pistons, rods, and crankshaft are generally the parts this can be done to.

About the cams I'm sure even the stock cams are cast for the main shaft but the lobes are prbably forged so they don't wear.

Okay, so you can take and use the factory cast metal parts and have them forged.

Forged and cast are how the parts are made, you can not turn a cast part into a forged part, you need to replace the cast part with a forged part.

Okay, thank you. That's the other thing I wanted to know.
