Default oil capacity revisited

ok so i have read that in 2002 the mustang gt was uped to use 6 quarts and the owners manual on line says 6 for the 02 and for the say 01 it says 5 quarts. I have also searched and read that the dipstick part number for the 6 quarts should be 1R3Z6750BB and the old part number is 1R3Z6750BA. Now my deleima is i have a 2002 and my owners manual says 5 and my dip stick has the ba at the end. what is goin on? Also from what i read oil pan engine block everything i sthe same from 99 to 04 is this true? If i put 6 in where will i be on my dip stick as of now i am right at the top? Help please im going nuts i just spent hours and hours looking at part numbers. Is this all because i have a car that has a build dat of 9/01. and i should add the other quart as i just did my oil change?

i work for a ford dealer and all 4.6L take 6 if you do the oil filter.

just changed my oil and oil filter, my dad and I always argue about this, we put 5 in, checked the level a little later, sure enough I was right and it was a quart low, 6 quarts if you change the oil filter too

Thankyou all for your replies. So i think i should be completly fine and it would be better for me to run 6 quarts instead of 5 and be alittle over on the dip stick? Is this right? I also noticed that my all data for 2002 mustang says to run 6 as well so this and the ford tecs all say 4.6 should get 6.

on my car there was a revision in the owners manual where it originally said 5, but they corrected it to be 6 quarts...check to see if the first page has that revision.

You can download a 2002 owner's manual from Ford here--it says 6.0 qts.
