forged crankshaft purchace
i have a 99 2v. it sounds like my push rod bearing is out. i havent checked to be absolutely sure yet. im not exactly sure how to check the degree of severity. i understand it can potentially be more involved than just replacing the bearing if its bad enough. i have plans for forced induction in the future so buy forged internals now? or just replace the stock for the time being. thanks..

lol, it's most likely a rod bearing since there are no pushrods in the modulars nor are there any pushrod bearings in a motor equipped with pushrods. Might aswell pull it apart and see the damage. If it needs to be turned then I'd just buy a forged one instead of a stock replacement for sure, even if you didn't put forged rods or pistons back in at the moment.

I've spun rod bearings on two motors: 426 Dodge and a 350 Camaro. The sound was distinct and absolutely the same in both cases. It was a deep toned hammering sound in the motor. At first the sound occurred when accelerating and then went away when I let off the gas. But it steadily got worse to a point where any downward movement of the throttle caused it knock matter how slight. I was able to limp both cars home without the rod going out the side of the block, but I was lucky. I should have parked the cars and had them towed.
My daughter spun the rod bearings on an 80-somethng six cylinder Chevy. It sounded the same. I sold it to a guy for $75 and told him to tow it home. He decided to try it. The rod when out the side of the block within 1/2 of a mile.
Sidenote: I had a friend who drove a inline six '57 Ford. He blew the rod completely through the side of the motor. When it cooled he reached in and pulled the rod out. We pushed the car with another car and damn if the motor didn't start. It smoked like hell and we beat the tar out of it but we couldn't get the other rods to let go.
