New Edge Braking Options

New Edge Braking Options
I have a 2000 GT that im building as a weekend HPDE/Occassional Drift Car out of. I am accuiring some K&W Coils and Wheels in a few weeks and was wondering what my options for brakes might be. If Possible I would like to keep 17" wheels at all 4 corners to keep the unsprung weight down. I Was just wondering what was out there other than cobra brakes and BBK's that require 18's.
Thanks

brembo 2000 Cobra R kit:

says it can be used with 17" wheels. i'd also look into Baer and Wilwood, i'm sure they have some options for your car, but you may have to upgrade to 18" for most of the aftermarket brakes out there.
i've even heard of people getting the rotor/pad kits from ebay and having pretty good results for daily driven cars (i.e. street use). i'd be kinda skeptical of these though especially if you'll be doing track driving, whether it's drifting, SCCA, Auto-X, etc.

Cobra R kit will be your cheapest option unless you go used. My father runs them in his GT. I am running Baer brakes on mine. The replacement rotors are also rather cheap ($80~).
The Cobra R kit will fit with 95 Cobra R's, MB Weapons, some FR500's, 03-04 Cobras, Enkei RPF1's and some others.
Make sure you get some good pads and a brake duct kit.

Baer makes replacement rotors that are cross-drilled & vented. With some good Hawk pads, would be an improvement over stock. If $$ is'nt a problem, def. replace calipers, rotors, and go w/ stainless brake lines. Maybe used Bullitt or Cobra's.

Definitely get a pad for what you are doing. I am running Carbotech AX6's for autocross and Carbotech XP10's for HPDE's.
I would not stick with the stock brakes on the GT. If I was planning to track the car, I would do a minimum of the Cobra R brakes. From what I have heard, the PBR's in the Mach/Cobra/Bullitt kit just can't handle the heat of repeated track days.

You must run at least a 17x9 with the correct clearance on the spokes (aka no Bullitts.)

buyfordracing's mach 1 kit with hawk hps pads. I've used this for several soloII events and am fine with it. During HPDE's though, depending on the track they do see quite a bit of heat, they have yet to ever crack or warp on me though.

I would definitely recommend a bigger kit than the Mach kit for HPDE's. Our brakes won't take the repeated heat.
