Default Questions about a Tune

I have a 96 mustang gt with the following work done, full exhaust system (headers all the way back), CAI, Throttle Body, under drive pulleys, 3.73 rear end gears lightweight flywheel, performance clutch and a short throw shifter.

How much would the car benefit from a tune?

Since you have full bolt ons basically, it would benefit greatly.

You should buy an SCT or diablosport and take the handheld to a shop to get a custom dyno tune specific for your car, location etc.

I live on Long Island in New York, there is a shop by me call Mustang Magic, I've heard they do good work. I gave them a call and they want $500 for a dyno tune, plus another $400 for the SCT. Sounds like i have my summer upgrade.

thanks for the help guys.

can you actually use a pre-used tuner? i asked the guys at my local shop just yesterday, and they said it wasnt possible for some reason, idk how he explained it. and tuning shouldnt cost up to 900..I got quoted $460 for a dyno tune with a new tuner.

Go with whichever tuner the guy doing the tune likes better...

you can chip it...and i see the chips all the time going for 75-150 or so..

but yeah, you can pick up a used sct device. i sell mine for 379.99 plus a 500 tune(sometimes the tunes are 400 on sale, depending on what my mood is), so they are in the normal ballpark. and i have used alot of used sct's and chip's both. some are locked, but it can be handled. they just want to sell you the tuner to make a few extra bucks.
