timing chain and heads

Default timing chain and heads

so im about to take the heads off of a 2v gt. and the book says to find TDC before removin the chain.... is that necessary since im replacing the rotating assembly anyways??

its not necessary period because as soon as you take the chains off all the valves will be pushed closed by the spings and not come in contact with the pistons. the tdc is more of a guide line so you know where all ur pistons are for install. atleast thats how i look at it

I don't think it's necessary TBH. I have taken them off without setting TDC before and didn't have an issue.
