Head gasket blown..While I'm at it, cam swap?
So I notice a definite anti-freeze smell coming from my exhaust and the coolant level is dropping. I figure it's a head gasket. Big whoop.
But, while I'm yanking the heads off anyway I'd like to install some snottier cams. Nothing radical, I'd like to keep the rest basically stock, but something with a bit of a lope and more snot is the goal.
I've never done a cam swap on a 4.6 so this I'll be breaking some new ground with this project.
Any suggestions?
02 stock GT.
Thanks in advance.

Check out Modular Head Shop for cams. Their stage 2 n/a cam might be what you're looking for. They're the same ones i'm doing.
Basically, you won't need to upgrade the springs (despite what some might say) they'll have a nice small lope, won't have any ptv clearance issues, and give you a nice bump in power without sacrificing power down low. For an extra $100 you can buy their matched cam gears, so you won't have to do any degreeing.
Here's the link. Nick is the owner, and usually answers the phone.

Before you go all out on this head gasket ordeal, remove the intake manifold and double check it for leaks. My buddy has an 02 and his intake cracked at the metal crossover (which ford made metal so it wouldnt crack)

Blown head gasket is rare on these without a ton of boost, I would change the intake manifold gaskets first. The heads like to pit right around the water seals on the intake gasket and cause leaks there. A dollop of RTV with new gaskets is usually the cure if this is indeed the problem.
