06 4.6 3v Swap To 99 GT 4.6 2V
#12
I've seen a 3v swapped car personally and imo it will be tough unless you are a good fabricator if on a budget. They had to machine parts to fit and redo the fuel rails and fuel system. They also had to make brackets to make certain parts work because of the drive by wire crap. I dont see why you wouldnt just do a 4v swap since its more common and easier to figure out. Good luck with your project though.

3v swapping into a 99-04 is stupid easy with the above kit. only thing is theres alot of little things that you'll want to be replacing while swapping the motor that make the price add up QUICK (getting an aftermarket CAI, headers if you dont already have em, an aftermarket throttle body instead of a stocker, etc...). plus you should still get on the dyno, not necessarily for a full on tune but to get a solid baseline.

EXPLORER 3v vs MUSTANG 3v
I talked with Keith Logan this morning, Keith gave me some very valuable information that I wanted to pass along. I learned that I made the right choice when I purchased the 07 Explorer engine. The 07 Explorer 3v engine has the same motor mount bosses as the 99-04 Mustang 4.6 2v. With that said the engine can be installed as a long block assembly vs using your block, then installing the 3v heads with the added cost of the gaskets and added time and/or labor involved to complete the project. I know the block is cast iron, weighs about 55 lbs more than the Mustang aluminum block, but when you install the Explorer 3v as a unit you also have a complete unit that was removed that can be sold ready to go, or you could use it for another project.
I wanted to address some questions/statements in this post...
Hangwire Seems awful risky for someone on a tight budget.
Answer No I have 2 complete assemblies, I could always put the original engine back.
Huey 33 How much do you think you would sell the 2v engine for once you get the 3v in your car??
Answer The price will be fair to me and who purchases the engine, but I will take offers.
Mykes GT I've seen a 3v swapped car personally and imo it will be tough unless you are a good fabricator if on a budget.
Answer Logan Motorsports and Blow By Performance has me covered.
If your planning on doing this swap, I recommend doing it sooner than later. The price of the engines and other parts may go up and be more limited as the frenzy begins. Be sure to contact Logan Motorsports for the kit and the information needed to make a successful transition.
Thanks Again Keith
