Default starting problems

i have a 97 mustang gt 4.6L with an automatic transmission. the car developed a problem not too long ago where it would start sometimes and not other times. now it wont start at all! so i thought that it was the trs sensor(trans range sensor) or neutral safety switch and i replaced it. it still wont start. the only way to start it is to jack the car up, turn the ignition on, crawl under and jump it from the spade black wire to the big red wire and it starts right up. i have heard that it could possibly be the theft deterrent system or the ignition switch, but if any of that was not working then i wouldnt be able to start it from underneath?! any ideas of what it could be?

Had similiar problems with a 99. Turned out to be a starter gronding issue. I grounded the starter with a heavy wire all the way back to the battery ground and fixed issue instantly. Ground to somewhere close may also work.
