Default Tune question

The mods in my sig (on the 2002 GT) is what i got now, and will be adding a JLT Short Ram intake this week and will be doing gears in a few months but haven't decided on 3.73 or 3.90 yet (4.10 is out of he question). I plan on getting a tune, obviously after the gears, but haven't decided whats the best route to go for the money and performance gains, or if its seriously worth it!

One option I've been seriously considering is the SCT 4-Bank Eliminator chip from AmericanMuscle.com, which comes with 4 custom tunes (provided by Bama Chips), one stock tune, free custom tunes for life, and a two-step rev limiter. The current price is $270, and seems to be pretty hard to pass up. They claim to take into consideration all your performance upgrades and send you a specific tune based on what you have. I realize this is still known as a "canned" tune, but seems to be much more in depth than most "canned" tunes out there.

A buddy of mine is trying to convince me to get a wideband and get it dyno tuned, but I don't anticipate on going FI at all with this car, and just don't know if the price tag would be worth it (although I don't have an exact price to base on, it does sound/seem expensive from what I've heard).

Any thoughts????

Let me rephrase that. Like you said above a custom tune from bama or whoever is still in a sense a canned tune. A dyno tune is 110% custom to your car !!!

depends on shop + what you want. if you want a bit of adjustability, you need a handheld too.

i got a diablosport chip (not the handheld as i dont need to change anything) + tune for 650. for an extra 100$ i could have gotten then diablosport predator but i didnt want it as my tuner will be switching to SCT soon, and as soon as he does, im goin that route too.

find a shop, one that you can trust, use what they use, and ask for pricing.

go with the 3.90 gears. as for the tune i was looking at the tunes from AM it doesnt seem like a bad deal. and for the mods you have intake exhaust and gears. im sure they have done more then a few cars like that and can give you a pretty good tune for it. going to a tuner would be better but its up to you if its worth the extra money for the maybe 5-10 hp you might get from a dyno that AM cant give you. Plus the fact that youd have to get it tuned again for another couple houndred if you get more done. I would go with the AM chip for what you have done to it. But thats just me.

Check these guys out, I have'nt contacted them yet, some friends from NOLA recomended them. Stang-Hi performance. 1124 cedar Park Ave. B.R. LA 70809. 225-751-4321. In house Dyno-jet,tunes, s/chargers, turbo's etc. www.stanghi.com. Heard about them on nostreetracing.com. There are supposed to be some other good places a in N.O. too. I'm closer to B.R. so I have'nt shopped that area too much. Good luck.

plan ahead. figure out your path to HP.
if you stay N/A, a SCT xcal + AM.com's "free tunes for life" is an awesome option, and it allows you to slightly tweak thier tunes to get a bit more HP if you want it/know how to do it.

now, if you plan on going F/I later on, the SCT is a good choice as well, because you have something to load the tunes with, only problem is your limited to SCT shops only.

nother consideration for gears, im running a turbo, and 3.73's are too much gear, the boost just pushes the RPM's up WAAY to fast and its like constantly shifting. with a supercharger might be different, but 3.90's with any F/I i would feel would be WAAAY too much, and its kind of a pain to spend the money to swap back...

if you ruled out 4.10's, i would say the reason you ruled them out, probably also applies to the 3.90's - so go 3.73's. Just my opinion though.
