Default 2000 GT engine into 97 GT ?

Hey guys, I tried to search and see if i could find a post for this but couldn't seem to. I just picked up a 97 GT last week and it has a knock/rattle at about 2000rpm + that I have had 4 different techs look at an no one seems to know what it is. Its being transferred throughout the engine, with stethoscope you can hear it on bell housing, front oil pan, valve covers and so on. I have an appointment at a Ford dealer on Tuesday with their top driveability guy so hopefully he can make some sense of this.

Anyway I am new to stangs and am curious if I can drop the 4.6 out of a 2000 GT into my 97 if I keep my 97 manual tranny. I know the heads are different so I guess I want to know how much work it would be and if it's even worth it, thank you so much in advance, Kevin

Unhappy cobra engine

Depending on the kind of money you have can spend, I would search around an try to find 4.6 cobra engine to poke down in it and make a sleeper car. By the way I had the same rattle you did at the same rpm and come to find out I had a rod bearing that spun. Good luck!
