Default yet another clutch issue need help please!!!!

ok, i looked through all the clutch adjustment links and couldnt find my problem...might have over looked it so sorry in advance...

now i have had alot of mustangs between 83- 92 and i know about pulling the clutch pedal up to adjust... my problem is... i have just bought a 97 gt with 69000 miles and the clutch releases like a 1/2 inch from the floor if that...i mean its right on the floor!! i prefer it at the top.. i asked a local mechanic if i could adjust it and he said it was hydraulic so no i couldnt....its suppose to be a 2yr old clutch...so my question is can i adjust this clutch to get it off the floor or is it toast...i'm new here so howdy all and your help would be great.... thanks

You're mechanic is a schlep, you're clutch is not hyrdraulic its cable. Did you check to see if it has an aftermarket quadrant?

Sounds to me like your cable is stretched out. I would go check to see if the quadrant is stock or not. If it is, go out and buy an aftermarket one, along with a firewall adjuster and a new FORD cable. Stay away from the aftermarket ones, as they tend to snap. My friend broke 8 of them within a year.

Steeda and Maximum motorsports are both good. They will run you about 80 bucks for the two parts. Maximum motorsports also sells a ford cable for 67 dollars if I remember correctly. figure it should be around 150 for all the parts.

How much free play is in the pedal? Should be 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" max...
