Default Spark Plugs

Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum and Mustangs in general - I just picked up my 2002 GT 2 weeks ago, after some lady decided to total my Acura..

Anyway, I was wondering at what mileage you usually change spark plugs? My car just turned 60,000 and sometimes it feels a little sluggish to start.

Thanks,

--Mike

I believe it is 50k for first scheduled major maintenance. I would go ahead and do that and a fuel filter too.

Considering that it takes all of 15 minutes to change all 8 plugs and open a corona, I'd go ahead and take care of it

You aren't allowing drinking time there, I would say 20 minutes lol.

Sounds good - might as well get that taken care of.

I'm more of a Rolling Rock kinda guy anyway though

so this is a spark plug/which beverage to drink while changing spark plugs thread? lol cool

svteeshirt said it right with the maintenance. It's best to change all that so you know where you are as far as maintenance and not have to guess if it's time to replace parts.

and I say some red stripe or any pale Ale(not that I tasted all) and I do love me some mexican beer all day loonng!.

Here's the maintenance schedule from the '03 shop manual, plugs at 100k miles.

Make sure you torque them properly (11 to 13 lbft), a 1/4" drive torque wrench works best, 3/8" drive is OK, a 1/2" drive torque wrench will be grossly inaccurate at only 12 lbft...

Dont forget to GAP them!!! I took mine out when I was replacing them a little while ago and they weren't gapped at all. Also I'd recommend picking up plug wires (I went with MOTORCRAFT for everything, FORD oem parts), I realized half way through the install one of my wires was shot, but they say to do plugs and wires all at once. Also Heineken is where its at people!!!
