Default Simple ways to improve performance

Hey gang,

My wife drives a 2004 Mustang GT with a 4.6l SOHC V8 and a 5 speed manual. The car is solid as a rock, completely stock and runs well. She only drives it in the summers and parks it in the garage in the winters. This year she says it just doesn't have the performance and pick up it used to have.

So my question, what are some routine things I can do to return the car to stock performance levels? She already runs higher octane fuel and I put Mobil 1 synth oil in it every 3k miles. I'm going to be changing the fuel filter next. I change the oil and check\clean\replace the air filter as required.

From what I've read on the forums, folks don't recommend cleaning the throttle body or anything like that. I've thought about new plugs, not sure how much that would improve things or even where exactly they are. I drive a diesel so no plugs. lol

Finally, I have no interest in putting a programmer on the car. She wants to keep it stock, so no programmer, super charger, etc.

Thanks for any guidance!

Mike

first off i wouldnt use mobil 1, use penzoil or amsoil or even motorcraft. i would also at least sand off the plugs or just replace them. and i fully seafoamed my car(seafoam spray in intake manifold and regular liquid half in gas half in oil) just make sure after seafoaming u change your oil after a few hundred miles

Ok thanks, I had not thought about running seafoam through it.

I don't want to get off topic, could you PM me with why Mobil 1 is so bad? I used it for years in my gas pickup and never a problem.

Kinda curious about not using mobil 1 one also. GM says my vette requires it and that's all i've run through my mustang since new among other vehicles.

I understand the SC, but a program is a good way to free HP, running High Octane? Programmer. PLugs help more than you think, pre-gapped nice one's. Everyone has 2 cents on that recco. Get Better Exhaust, sounds better, runs better. Just a cheap pace setter with flows will do, im sure you can put them on. Hope it helps!
