Default Over heating

Replaced water pump on 97' GT last week. It's over heating again. Could the underdrive pulleys have anything to do with ruining the water pump? It's squeeking again.

How many miles on the car?

When was the cooling system last flushed?

Did you use yellow coolant when it was refilled?

What is the anti-freeze/water ratio?

Does it overheat at lower speeds and in town driving, and run OK on the highway?

If so and it had not been flushed regularly (at least each 50k miles) then I'd bet the radiator is clogged up. Typically they clog up in the center in front of the fan, but the area around the center is clear/more clear. On the highway the air flow through the edges is enough to keep the engine cool, but at low speeds even when the fan is running it's not enough.

A good radiator shop (of which there are not many left) could flow-test it to be sure, but most shops just replace them now...

So, nothing with the underdrive pulley on the water pump?

I'll work on the radiator next.

If all else is well the UDPs should not affect cooling, except maybe in bumper-to-bumper traffic with the AC on full...

I've put a set of Steeda UDPs on my car last August and have not had any cooling problems--here in Florida, even with the AC blasting away...

I was wondering more alone the lines of ruining the water pump. I read somewhere that when it goes bad, it may squeek. Well, I'm getting the squeeking again. I'm thinking I got a bad water pump. I think maybe an aftermarket will probably do me some good.

Unless the water pump is seized, and squeaking because the belt is slipping badly, it has to be turning. If it's turning then it's pumping water, if it's pumping water then it's not the cause of the engine's overheating--it's just making an obnoxious noise...

Thermostat was replaced. Belt was replaced last spring.

Started the car today. The worst squeeking I have ever heard. Did the ole' back yard mechanic trick and used a hose to try and hear wear it was coming from. Sounded like it was coming from the area of the pump. I'll replace the water pump and belt one last time.
