Default altenator squeal

this is my first post so I will go ahead and thank you guys for any helpfull information. I finally bought my first mustang its a 96 gt 5-speed and i love the car but having a few issues that need to be addressed. When I bought the car the guy said the altenator bearings were bad because it would squeal really loud when the engine was running and he would spray some wd-40 on the end of the altenator were the nut hold the pully on and it would quit.

So I got it home and went and bougt a altenator for it $170, thats crazy, anyway put it on and the squaling went away. drove it for a couple of days back and forth from work and no squealing.

got up this morning and started it and noticed it squealed a little on start up. pulled it in the shop and put plugs/wires.flushed the coolant. start it back up and it squeals just as loud as before. so I sprayed wd-40 in the same place the guy i bought it from did and it quit for a few minutes and started again.

Whats the chances of both altenators bearings going out. the altenator that I took off the car when I got it looked faily new to. Is somthing causing the bearings to go out.

Well I went back out there and sparyed the belt itself on the ribbed side of course and it quit. took it up the road and it starts squealing at anything above 2500rpms could the tensoiner be bad and letting the belt slip? anyone else have this problem

Since you sprayed wd-40 directly on the pulley at the bolt on the first alternator and the noise would go away. I would suspect a bad pulley that is slipping and spinning on the shaft. I would assume you most likely had to transfer the pulley over to the new alternator therefore transferring problem over to the new part. I would remove pulley and look for scoring marks on alternator shaft. If this is not the problem try replacing belt next. It is a cheap part to replace and may have become stretched.

well the new altenator came with a new pulley so thats not the problem. when putting the new altenator on i noticed it was really hard to put the belt back on so i checked the part number and it is the right belt. but if spraying the belt stoped it its gotta be slipping somehow I would think.

First, WD40 is bad for belts. Use a silicone spray.

Mine was squeaking, I took the belt off, scrubbed it clean, rinsed it, dried it and sprayed silicone spray all over, let it dry then finally put it back on. Squeak gone.

I have had the issue where they squeale due to sand getting caught in the grooves on the belt

I may take the belt back off and clean it or get a new one. if it turns out to be the belt I wasted $170 on a new altenator. hopefully I just clean it up and take it back like I never used it.

If you do buy a new belt, get a goodyear gatorback. I 1st replaced my belt with duralast but that didnt help, the gatorback did the trick.
